A look into AlixPartners’ innovative way of helping new leaders accelerate into their role
Being a high performer on your own does not automatically translate into being a great leader of others, which makes the transition from individual contributor to a manager of people a notoriously difficult shift.
At AlixPartners - a global consulting firm headquartered in New York City - newly promoted leaders were facing exactly this challenge. They felt they lacked clarity of expectations, experienced a new pressure to ‘show up’ as a leader and were anxious to maintain relationships with their colleagues.
Sam Moat and his team were tasked with coming up with a solution, but there was a catch: Whatever they created had to reach a large, global audience and avoid significant impact on client projects.
Using Knowly, the team devised an innovative 8-week learning journey that consisted of four 2-week waves. The program nudged participants to embed practice and reflection in their work, thus effectively minimizing the impact on billable hours while still delivering a compelling experience.
In this webinar, Sam shares the story behind their award-winning program, walks us through their analysis, deployment and evaluation work, and shares his thoughts on what to think about when crafting effective programs for new managers at scale.
